1. ULAT SAGU

The typical Mentawai cuisine that can be classified as extreme is a yellowish sago caterpillar with a black head, the size of an adult thumb. Usually used as satay, with a sprinkling of a little salt. Cooking will be more delicious to burn with a coconut shell and do not burn. Can also be cooked with a piece of bamboo. The caterpillar's stomach is split and then inserted into the bamboo, then burned until boiling.
 



2. subbet

Subbet is a typical Mentawai culinary that is used as staple food, in addition to sago and rice. Made from a mixture of taro aka taro with kepok bananas that are ripe but not too soft. The two main ingredients are boiled, then pulverized until they are finely mixed with simple spices such as sugar and salt. Formed roundly, and finally coated with grated coconut until all parts are closed. Simple, but that's where the life of the Mentawai people is reflected.

3. sagu sipurut

This is the staple food of Mentawai people, which is made from sago only, the processing process is unique and traditional. Sago is shredded and sifted using rattan, so it does not clot. Then the flour is placed on top of the sago leaf, then wrapped until all parts are closed. It was then burned with a wood-burning stove. There is no mixture of other ingredients to make this unique Mentawai culinary. Therefore sago is usually enjoyed with side dishes and vegetables. Usually this dish is always available at large events such as weddings.
